Anne-Marie Carroll

Anne-Marie was born in Dublin in 1979. She studied Visual Communications at D.I.T. (majoring in illustration) and graduated in 2002. Her work lies somewhere between art and illustration. "I am preoccupied with intricacy and ornamentation, using pattern and detail to create visual texture in my paintings. I derive inspiration from a great many things, and hold the mundane and extraordinary in equal esteem. I find it interesting when there are layers of meaning at work within a single piece, something to engage your attention each time you view an image. Floral motifs are a recurring theme in my work. The natural shapes, colours and patterns that appear with blooms never cease to amaze." Some of Anne-Marie's most recent work is influenced by Eastern Art. The intriguing and timeless elegance of the Ukiyo-e Japanese prints, with their worship of the imperfect are inimitable, and provide a wealth of inspiration.
