Ellen Braende

Ellen Braende was born in Oslo, Norway in 1959 and has always been fascinated with horses. She attended the College of Graphic Design & Illustration in Oslo and was practising as a graphic designer before moving to Dingle in 1999. She is self-taught in the media she uses which is mostly oils. Although her paintings depict a variety of subject matter, the emphasis is on horses, a deciding factor in her choice of Ireland as a base. The artist takes photographs on her visits to horse fairs throughout the West Kerry region and then produces paintings depicting traders and horses amid the vibrant atmosphere of the local fairs. Ellen Braende has also spent long periods travelling through Bolivia and then Vietnam in 2000/2001. ‘I look to the well-known Norwegian portrait painter and author Christian Krohg (1852-1925 ) for inspiration.’.
