Gabrielle Bowe

Gabrielle Bowe was born in Waterford in 1950. She moved to Dublin in 1968 and has lived and worked there since. By way of subject matter Gabrielle has done mainly portraits,still life and landscapes.The paintings in this series are a metaphor for the journey through life. There are two strands to this metaphor. One the Journey and the second Beyond.The journey uses views in a street or maybe a cloister, views that pull the viewer in onto a path. This path usually has a focus which can be explicit or mysterious, as in a half open doorway. One is drawn to one's destiny or dream. In nearly all the scenarios a choice can be made, to go along the obvious path, straight to the end, to a doorway maybe or be tempted off the path through the arches onto another more interesting path!This path can be smooth but is not always. Life often presents a challenge.There may be hills or steep steps to climb.
