Jenny Cleary

Jenny Cleary is an artist living and working in Dublin. She is originally from Norway but studied art in England and Scotland.
“The human face and body have always fascinated me with their intensity of colours, structure, light and shadow. I want to re-create the human skin and flesh using the multitude of colours I see when looking at a subject and I want to explore the skin close up and find ways in portraying it through paint. My portraits vary from young to old. Some are friends, others are people I have seen walk past me in the street. Particular faces capture my interest and inspire me, whether it is the lighting or a special feature. I paint in oil on canvas or board and create surface richness by using multiple layers and contrasting areas of the picture with thin transparent glazes. Colour plays a major role in all my work.”
