Rowena Keaveny

Rowena is 36 years old and lives in Co.Offaly with her partner and three young children. She is an artist who has a non-traditional background in that she doesn’t have an art degree and became an artist fairly late on after years of being registered disabled. This has fired her into a firm belief that art and art practice should be an inclusive, life enhancing process and not one that is alienating or elite. “Working with other disabled people through my work as a community artist has given me a great insight into the emotional as well as physical components of disability. This combined with my own experiences allows me to more accurately illustrate and represent a disabled perspective. My art practice with its’ exploration of physical and emotional architecture is not about finding a way through the experiences of an internal or external structure it is a journey to find a way through the colours that those experiences and building leave the cells of your insides.”
